The commodities wholesale markets fluctuated mannerly, quite in line with the world markets, during the week ended on February 14, 2009, during which wheat and til depicted weakness while elsewhere commodities shared rise and fall modestly.
On the opening day, wheat and til were reported to have weakened owing to fresh supplies and modest demand. Wheat both old and new with bardana depicted downturn by Rs 50 to Rs 2600 and better type was quoted at Rs 2615. Til shed substantially by Rs 100 to Rs 2700 while better type was marked at Rs 3000. Elsewhere on Jodia Bazaar chemical items depicted mixed trend said to be due to demand and supplies remain in order.
However, chemicals sodium sulphate closed down by 50 paisa to Rs 10, formic acid Pak ended lower by Rs 2 to Rs 94, formic acid from Germany ended down by Rs 2 to Rs 108, Oxalic acid from China closed lower by Re 1 to Rs 69, and citric acid china closed down by Rs 6 to Rs 74. Petroleum jelly white from Iran shed Re 1 to Rs 43, sulphomic acid hard closed lower by Rs 5 to Rs 135 PVA Japan rose by Rs 11 to Rs 297, Sitara caustic soda flakes ended higher by Rs 2 to Rs 52, and caustic soda Taiwan closed higher by Rs 3 to Rs 51, Hydrosulphate China 88 pc quoted at Rs 79.20, same item from Germany closed lower by Rs 3 to Rs 165, and India shed Rs 13 to Rs 79, acetic acid. Taiwan closed lower by Rs 12 to Rs 74 and Korea ended down by Rs 10 to Rs 73, hydrogen peroxide (35 pc) Taiwan was quoted at Rs 32, Korea, peroxide lost Rs 6 to Rs 33 and Thailand's shed Rs 9 to Rs 31.
After a day's closure of markets on Tuesday trading remained suspended, fluctuations were not reported. On Wednesday buying improved hence more fluctuations were furnished showing mixed pattern. On the cereal side wheat prices tended higher modestly rising by Rs 50 to Rs 2625 while the other type was quoted at Rs 2640, moong from Punjab closed lower by Rs 500 to Rs 2750m, Masoor Canada lost Rs 600 to Rs 8000, Urad Burma shed Rs 25 to Rs 1750 while the betters type shed Rs 150 to Rs 2000.
On gram side beetle Chana No 1 shed Rs 300 to Rs 4200 while the other type was quoted at Rs 4400, dal beetle climbed higher by Rs 500 to Rs 4800 while the other type was quoted at Rs 5000. On the rice side Irri 9 Sindh low type shed Rs 200 to Rs 3200, while the other type lost Rs 100 to Rs 3300, Irri-6 Sindh was modestly up by Rs 100 to Rs 2750, basmati inferior type rose sharply by Rs 1000 to Rs 3500 while the other type was put at Rs 4500. Seed side saw rapeseed from Nawabshah better type losing Rs 60 to Rs 1640, while low quality was put at Rs 1600, rapeseed from Dadu better type lost Rs 50 to Rs 1350, rapeseed cakes inferior type rose by Rs 60 to Rs 760, the better type gathered Rs 55 to Rs 765, cottonseed oilcakes with bags from Punjab new better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 825, cottonseed oilcake from Sindh with bad lost Rs 50 to Rs 800 while better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 925.
On Jodia Bazaar Milk powder skimmed (per bag of 25 kgs) Irish skimmed closed lower by Rs 200 to Rs 6800, Haleeb SMP closed lower by Rs 250 to Rs 6500, skim Poland shed Rs 200 to Rs 6000, golden berger shed Rs 1100 to Rs 6400 and Holland closed down by Rs 1000 to Rs 6500. On Thursday most of the commodity items suffered during subdued business.
Makai, after a long-time, lost Rs 75 to Rs 1550 and Juwar followed same direction losing Rs 40 to Rs 1400. Masoor Canada shed Rs 30 to Rs 7700 and Masoor dall also fell by Rs 100 to Rs 9000. Wheat old and new (Bardana), however, were higher by Rs 25 also Rs 2650-2665. Rapeseed Lasbela lost Rs 50 to Rs 1000.
On Jodia Bazaar Kenyan tea items showed mixed trend. KENYAN TEA (Per kg): PF-1 A Grade ended lower by Rs 10 to Rs 290, B Grade moved down by Rs 11 to Rs 285 and plus C Grade moved upward by Rs 3 to Rs 273.
BP-1: A-1 Grade finished lower by Rs 5 to Rs 300, B Grade edged down by Rs 10 to Rs 285, plus C Grade went downward by Rs 10 to Rs 265 and C Grade finished lower by Rs 15 to Rs 235.
On Friday, as usual there was no transaction on grain and seed markets for market players were engaged in Juma prayer preparation.
On Jodia Bazaar plastic-moulding compounds closed mixed. The changes were: PLASTIC MOULDING COMPOUNDS (Per lb): HDPE (FILM): Saudia 952 was quoted at Rs 46.50, Mobil went down by 50 paisa to Rs 46 and TR144 moved up by 50 paisa to Rs 46. HDPE (INJECTION): Sabic 200056 closed higher by Rs 2 to Rs 52, Mobil 016 finished up by Rs 2 to Rs 51 and Iran closed upward by Rs 2 to Rs 51. HDPE (BLOW): Kuwait higher by Re 1 to Rs 45, Marlex edged upward by Re 1 to Rs 45 and Iran ended up by Re 1 to Rs 45. LDPE: 374 went up by Rs 2 to Rs 50, MG 20 ended lower by Re 1 to Rs 54 and MG 70 moved downward by Rs 5 to Rs 55. LLDPE: W118 ended higher by Re 1 to Rs 49, 7087 finished up by Re 1 to Rs 49 and Sabic 500026 edged up by Rs 3 to Rs 55. POLYPROPYLENE (FILM): Thai moved lower by Rs 3 to Rs 55, Kuwait finished down by Rs 3 to Rs 55 and India ended downward by Rs 3 to Rs 55. POLYPROPYLENE (TAPE GRADE): India ended up by Re 1 to Rs 44, Kuwait finished higher by Re 1 to Rs 44 and Saudia went upward by Re 1 to Rs 44. POLYPROPYLENE (INJECTION GRADE): Saudia moved up by Re 1 to Rs 44, India edged higher by Re 1 to Rs 44 and Kuwait went upward by Re 1 to Rs 44. POLYSTYRENE: BASF was quoted at Rs 2,700 and Pakistani was quoted at Rs 2,409. COPOLY: Block ended up by 50 paisa to Rs 47.50 and Randon moved lower by Rs 2 to Rs 60. HIGH IMPACT (Per bag): Pakistani was quoted at Rs 2,715. ABS (Per bag): Polylac 707 ended lower by Rs 50 to Rs 3,300 and Iran went downward by Rs 50 to Rs 3,200.
On Saturday as most of the buyers were not interested in the new purchasing due to unusual rise in the rates during the last sessions. Wheat old and new (Bardana) were sharply lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2600-2615. Sugar lost Rs 50 to Rs 3900, Gur better type was higher by Rs 100 to Rs 3900, while the inferior quality did not move any side at Rs 3300. Rapeseed Nawabshah low type gained Rs 50 to Rs 1650 while better type was higher by Rs 60 to Rs 1700, Dadulane low type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1325 while best type maintained the overnight level. Mirpurlane inferior type was up by Rs 75 to Rs 1575 and good type did not show any change at Rs 1600. Cakes inferior type was down by Rs 10 to Rs 750 and best type fell by Rs 5 to Rs 760, cottonseed oilcake with bag Punjab new best quality lost Rs 25 to Rs 800 and low type showed firmness. Irri-6 Sindh was lower by Rs 150 to Rs 2900.
On Jodia Bazaar milk powder showed mixed trend. The changes were: MILK POWDER SKIMMED (Per bag of 25 kgs): Nur Pur edged down by Rs 200 to Rs 6000.
VEGETABLE: Corolac went lower by Rs 575 to Rs 7,725, Haleeb Veg moved downward by Rs 100 to Rs 6,100 and Melco Veg was quoted at Rs 6,625.
SWEETENED (Per carton): King was quoted at Rs 2,100 and Comelle closed higher by Rs 200 to Rs 3,150.
UNSWEETENED (Per carton): King of Kings ended down by Rs 100 to Rs 3,650.
