Secretary General Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Jehangir Badr on Tuesday called on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence and discussed various important issues including the upcoming Senate polls.
Sources told Business Recorder that various important issues including the country's current political situation, lawyers' long march, PML-N stance on judges' reinstatement and Sharif brothers' disqualification case came under discussion.
Jehangir Badr also delivered a message of President Asif Ali Zardari to the PML-N leader, sources claimed. Nawaz assured Jehangir Badr that the PML-N would continue its support for the continuation of democratic process. However, he said that his party is waging a just struggle and would never budge from its principle stance, the sources said.
After the meeting, Badr said there was no set agenda for Tuesday's meeting, however, in the meeting, various important issues including the Senate Polls were discussed. He said the PPP was endeavouring to develop consensus for Senate elections in the Punjab, as it would pave the way for unopposed polls like Sindh province and thus leave a positive impact.
Sources claimed that the Senate polls might help reduce gulf between the PML- and PPP. Meanwhile, a five-member delegation of German Parliamentarians led by German Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Michael Koch also met the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at his residence.
Sources said that Nawaz told the German delegation that Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism but despite that it is making efforts for global peace. The PML-N is also struggling for free judiciary and social justice in the country, Nawaz said.
German Ambassador Dr Michael Koch said Germany wants to provide assistance for human development projects in Punjab. The Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and PPP Secretary General Jehangir Badr were also present during the meeting.
Meanwhile, PML-N Central Finance Secretary Muhammad Pervez Malik has lauded the use of option of talks by the NWFP government for ensuring peace. Malik said, 'If government had used the option of talks earlier many innocent lives could have been saved. Peace can be ensured only through dialogue instead of force".
