Federal Minister for Tourism Maulana Attaur Rehman on Saturday said that presence of US forces in Afghanistan is the main reason for instability in the region. Talking to reporters after enquiring about the health of Dera Ismail Khan blast victims at PIMS, Atta said that thinking about regional peace would be a wild goose chase in the presence of US forces.
He said the government should also hold talks with the Taliban in Dera Ismail Khan as it did in Swat. The local administration has completely failed in maintaining law and order in the area and the worrisome situation needs urgent remedy as innocent people are being killed every day by terrorists.
He said that the Swat deal would ensure peace and help provide speedy justice to people at their doorsteps. The minister told reporters that the peace deal similar to Swat in the tribal region would prove beneficial to the country.
Replying to a question, Atta said the agreement is aimed at bringing peace in the restive Swat valley. "Implementation of Islamic law has been popular among those who have been directly affected. The Taliban in the area have been pushing for this type of arrangement for long, and the civilian population is optimistic that there will be peace in the valley and life will be normal again," he added.
