The woes of commuters travelling in shabby public transport in the federal capital are going unheeded by the city managers and the people are left to face humiliation, inconvenience and stubbornness by the staff operating public transport.
Commuters travelling on busy IJ Principal road, who have to reach Islamabad, are facing lot of troubles and called for plying comfortable service on route No 101 that starts from Pirwadhai in Rawalpindi and ends at Faisal Masjid in the capital.
Majority of the travellers are students and employees, who often risk their lives as they have to get on the out-dated buses in an extremely dangerous fashion.
Federal capital aptly described as 'the beautiful' is undoubtedly built on modern lines and it can be matched with any metropolitan of a developed country, however, serious attention is still awaited to its flawed transport system.
Getting seated in the bus isn't less than adventure. Many times commuters clinging on the buses's gates lose grip and fell on the road. It leads to fatal incidents.
Buses plying on IJP road for route No 101 are really in bad shapes. No heed is being paid for he maintenance of vehicles, as they cause of smoke-emission and noise pollution.
Women are also facing a lot of problems, as no specific seats are allocated for them and they have to face humiliating behaviour by men. Females prefer to hire yellow-cabs, for which no fairs are determined. They charge as much as they wish, irrespective of mileage noted on the speedo-metre. IJP road is definitely a great facility for motorists, but for commuters its a nightmare, said Salim Khan, who daily comes to Capital through IJP road. He asked the authorities to allocate this route to more transports so that the number of buses could be increased.
