Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in a meeting held with its leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the chair at his Raiwind residence on Thursday decided to launch a protest movement in an organised and effective manner against the government and to protest disqualification of Sharif brothers as well as imposition of governor's rule in the Punjab province.
The PML-N leadership also decided to exert pressure on the government through mass movement and parliament by launching effective protest. In this regard, the PML-N leaders evolved a strategy, details of that will be unfolded on Friday.
The PML-N is also holding sit-in protests across the country at Tehsil level after Juma prayers to protest against imposition of governor's rule and usurping the rights of people of Punjab in particular, the sources said. The meeting also decided to launch a mass contact campaign for paving the way for a forceful movement against the present regime.
Sources privy in the meeting told Business Recorder that Nawaz Sharif lambasted President Asif Ali Zardari for hoodwinking the nation by not honouring his commitments. He also said that people from Khyber to Karachi had rejected the verdict of PCO judges and taking to streets to protest Sharifs disqualification. He said no undemocratic action would be tolerated and the mandate of the people must be respected.
Nawaz also said Pakistan is passing through hard times because of verdicts of the PCO judiciary. He said President Asif Ali Zardari had deceived the nation and did not honour his commitments. He further criticised the authorities for torturing the MPAs and refraining them to join the Punjab assembly proceedings called by Speaker as per constitution.
The meeting also decided that Nawaz Sharif would undertake tour of Sindh province from March 3. In this regard, Syed Ghous Ali Shah has been assigned the task of making necessary arrangements for visit of Nawaz Sharif. Syed Ghous Ali Shah on Thursday proceeded to Karachi to make necessary arrangements.
It was also decided that the PML-N senior leader Raja Zafarul Haq would lead a rally in Rawalpindi on Friday. The meeting asked the party leaders from all the four provinces to hold rallies in their respective areas, the sources added. Among others, the meeting was attended by Raja Zafar ul Haq, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pervez Rasheed, Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar and others.
Moreover, PML-N Central Finance Secretary Muhammad Pervez Malik has said that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif have been disqualified for criticising defective policies of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said: "Injustice has been done by disqualifying Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif."
He said people of the country knew that it was political decision taken by rulers because of fear of long march. He said PCO judges have no right to take decisions against mandate of masses adding those involved in conspiracy against democratic government of Punjab would have to account for their acts very soon.
Malik said the PML-N leadership enjoys support of masses and those who think that they can push them to the wall through such tactics are gravely mistaken. He said promises made by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had created a ray of hope but regrettably it has been turned into despondency due to adamancy of presidency. He said President Asif Zardari would be held accountable for causing severe blow to democracy.
Further, the PML-N Central Secretary General International Affairs Sheikh Kaiser Mehmood has said that political parties including Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf neither accepted the present Supreme Court nor its decision.
He said that decision of Supreme Court proved that their participation in the general elections of 2008 was wrong. The present Supreme Court is fake court of ex-dictator Pervez Musharraf and the PML-N would continue struggle for the restoration of deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, he added. The PML-N leader said the government liked the Musharraf judges and such decision was expected from them.
