Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek and Information Minister Sherry Rehman on Saturday briefed the diplomats and envoys of differences on the current political and constitutional crisis in the country emerged in the aftermath of the disqualification of Sharif brothers followed by proclamation of the governor's rule in Punjab.
Sources said that the briefing was given in the foreign office keeping in view the situation in the country as some of the foreign countries have shown their concern about the Pakistan's internal situation. The ministers told diplomatic corps that this was complete a non-political issue as Supreme Court of Pakistan has gave verdict and upheld the decision of Lahore High Court disqualifying Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.
The pardon given to Sharif brothers by former president Tarar was withdrawn and led to disqualification of two politicians, the diplomats were informed. The ministers briefed the diplomats that the sacked Chief Justice could not only be reinstated without amendments to Constitutions. They informed the diplomats that Sharif brothers were disqualified by the courts as their convictions were not pardoned by the government before sending them to exile.
The government is making efforts for reconciliation to overcome the latest situation, they added. They added that government would soon lift the governor's rule in Punjab keeping in view the law and order situation in the province.
Almost all members of diplomatic corps attended the briefing and expressed hope that Pakistan will resolve this political situation in a way to save democracy from derailing. They expressed full support to Pakistan in its efforts in war against terror. They said that Pakistan is an important country particularly with regard to war against terror and world support at this juncture is imperative.
