Newly appointed Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Judge of Supreme Court took oath of their offices here on Monday. Justice M. Bilal, former judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) took oath as Chief Justice of IHC and former IHC Chief Justice took oath as a judge of the apex court at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar administered the oath to the newly appointed the Chief Justice of IHC and judge of the SC. After the appointment of Sardar Muhammad Aslam, the number of judges at the apex court has reached 22. It may be mentioned here that the government, through the Finance Bill 2008-09, increased the number of SC judges to 29.
Addressing the media after attending the ceremony, Attorney General Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa said that the option of dialogue to find an amicable solution for all the issues, including judiciary, was still open for all the stakeholders.
Talking about the Supreme Court decision, disqualifying Sharif brothers, he said that options, including review, were still intact. He stressed the need for a dialogue to find solution of all such issues. However, he rejected the approach, adopted by the legal fraternity and some political parties for restoration of deposed judges, including deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, saying the agitation and protest demonstrations would not bring any result.
The ceremony, started with the recitation from Holy Quran, was attended by judges of the Supreme Court as well as judges of Islamabad High Court, Lahore High Court (Rawalpindi bench), besides Attorney General for Pakistan, Federal Law Secretary, Secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan, lawyers and law officers and other prominent attended the ceremony. Registrar of Supreme Court of Pakistan Raja Lehrasab Khan conducted the proceedings of oath taking ceremony.
