Further improvement was seen on the currency market on Thursday as rupee recovered more ground versus dollar, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee rose by five paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 80.30 and 80.35, they said.
Amid fourth session of Asian market yen rose over one percent versus dollar on Thursday, adding to sharp gains of the previous session, while the New Zealand dollar briefly hit a two-week high after its central bank cut rates less than some had expected.
The US dollar had weakened broadly the previous day as investors decided its recent gains had gone far enough without new stimulus to prompt fresh buying and after a Chinese trade report cast doubt on Chinas ability to finance the US current account deficit.
OPEN MARKET RATES: Same trend mirrored on the open market as the rupee gained 10 paisa against dollar for buying at 80.20 and it also rose by 20 paisa for selling at 80.50, they said. The rupee lost 30 paisa in relation to euro for buying at Rs 101.80, it also shed 50 paisa for selling at Rs 103.00, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee lost ten paisa on buying side while it remained unchanged on selling side in relation to the greenback in the kerb market on Thursday. There was no visible change in dollars demand that helped rupee stability on selling side while its buying rate increased by 10 paisa. The dollar was traded at Rs 80.10 and Rs 80.50 against the overnight closing of Rs 80.00 and Rs 80.50 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the moneychangers said. However, the rupee could not maintain upward trend and remained under pressure against the pound sterling. The pound showed strength and closed higher at Rs 111.50 and Rs 112.50 as compared to Wednesday closing of Rs 111.20 and Rs 112.20 on buying and selling sides, respectively.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was minus by 20 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday. The dollar opened at Rs 79.80 (buying) and Rs 79.90 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 80.00 (buying) and Rs 80.10 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 79.80 (buying) and Rs 79.90 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 109.00 (buying) and Rs 110.00 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 109.00 (buying) and Rs 110.00 (selling).
