Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday accepted the resignation of Sherry Rehman as Information Minister after consultation with President Asif Ali Zardari and gave the portfolio to Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Qamar Zaman Kaira as additional charge.
Sources said that Sherry did not change her principled stand though the Prime Minister tried his level best to convince her to continue the job at this critical juncture.
They said that she told Gilani that she was compelled to vacate the slot as Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer passed insulting remarks against her, but nobody took notice of it. Earlier, Sherry had indicated to resign if a crackdown was launched against the media, and the recent ban on a private TV channel was ample reason for her resignation.
