Professor Ian D Simpson, a Toxicologist from United Kingdom, presently working as an Advisor with Pakistan Medical Research Council and the Sindh Governments Technical Advisor on research project on anti-snake, visited the University of Sindh (SU) and met with the Vice Chancellor, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Monday.
The scholar showed his interest to work in a joint venture with the research scholars of the SUs department of Zoology, Physiology, Biochemistry and Microbiology. Simpson informed the VC that his visit to the SU is aimed to initiate research work on snakes as well their identification. He said that there is a need of fieldwork on snakes inhabiting in Pakistan.
Further, the visiting scholar also said that he wished to work in collaboration with the SU scholars in the laboratories of the departments of Zoology, Physiology, Microbiol-ogy and Biochemistry. He also expressed his interest in establishing a research laboratory dedicated to research work on snakes.
Simpson said now days, environment is a global topic. While taking great interest in the history of Sindh he said that Shikarpur and Ranikoat fort were among the historical wealth of Sindh. He said that people ignored the past and added that it is great to develop the main cities linked with their past like Shikarpur.
The VC welcomed the scholar and briefed him about the research facilities and contribution of research scholars of the SU. He said that some years back, scholar from the department of Physiology contributed to research on snakes and some basic work in print form would be available for further research.
