Some armed militants blew up the residence of former federal minister and provincial president PML-Q, Engineer Amir Muqam in Bahrain, district Swat said reports pouring from area here on Wednesday. According to sources, some armed militants earlier took the possession of the house after forcing the two servants of the former federal minister.
The militants reportedly planted explosive to blast the building. The number of the militants arrived at the house were 60 to 70. "How peace would be restored in Swat when the militants had started occupying residences of the people," uttered the concerned politician. However, he said that he would take the matter with the local administration.
Amir Muqam, Deputy parliamentary leader of PML-Q in National Assembly was very closed to former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf. In the election of 2002, he was elected on the ticket of religio-political alliance MMA, but defected to the then ruling PML-Q, which later elevated him to the office of provincial chief in the province.
Former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) was calling him his younger brother and once while addressing a public meeting in Chitral he publicly handed over his personal pistol to Engineer Amir Muqaam.
Due to his relations with former military ruler and architect of the post 9/11 foreign policy of Pakistan, he had been attacked to time. But, he survived all both attempts. One suicide attack on his residence in Hayatabad Peshawar claimed the life of his cousin Pir Mohammad Khan MPA.
The tourists attractive valley Swat since last one year was a no-go area for the government functionaries and none of the legislators elected from the district was daring to visit their native town. The militants were targeting the political activists affiliated with liberal ANP, PPP and PML-Q in the district.
The government of NWFP had signed a peace agreement with Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Sharia Mohammadi (TNSM) for enforcement of Sharia-based judicial system in Malakand division and district Kohistan of the Hazara. However, the agreement was still awaiting the signature of the President Asif Ali Zardari.
Meanwhile, a security person was killed and three other injured in a road explosion in Lakaro, Mohmand Agency. The convoy of the security forces was on its way to Mohammad Ghaat, when it hit an explosive planted on the road resulting in injuries to 4 security persons one of which succumbed to his injuries. In retaliation the security forces started indiscriminately firing. On the other hand the jet fighters of the security forces continued flying on several parts of the Tehsil Lakaro of the agency, but take no action.
