Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Talha Mehmood on Thursday criticised the new US Afghan policy, saying it would exert a negative impact on the international war against terrorism. The policy would also affect peace and order in the region in general and fuel instability in Afghanistan in particular, he said while talking to the media.
He also criticised reported US intention to continue drone attacks on tribal areas in country. He further said tribal people were already victims of terrorism. The problems of terrorism in Afghanistan and militancy in tribal areas of Pakistan need to be addressed more through dialogue process, he said.
The senator said that peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan can only be possible through development, adding that warfare will further deteriorate the situation in these areas. He said people of South Asia want the new US president to work for development in the region instead of massive spending in the name of war against terrorism.
