Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majeed undertaking official visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday called on Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.
He exchanged views on a range of security issues in the Middle East and South Asia with specific reference to Palestine issue, situation in Iraq, security dynamics in Afghanistan and tribal regions of Pakistan. Progress in campaign against terrorism and violent extremism post Mumbai incident, and Indo-Pak relations, said a press release of ISPR issued here.
The revised US strategy for Afghanistan also came under discussion. The CJCSC while explaining the unprecedented security challenges to Pakistan, underscored the importance of transforming the profile of existing bilateral relationship into strategic partnership encompassing, interalia, an institutionalised mechanism for defence and security dialogue on regular basis. Prince Saud Al-Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud assured continued support to Pakistan in dealing with its security and economic challenges.
Earlier, CJCSC called on Assistant Minister of Interior Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Bin Abdul Aziz and discussed the status of bilateral intelligence co-operation and the mechanism of de-indoctrination and rehabilitation programme being implemented in Saudi Arabia for mainstreaming those susceptible to terrorism and violent extremism. Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Bin Abdul Aziz appreciated efforts of Pakistani deputationists towards training of Saudi security forces and assured CJCSC of assistance and co-operation by Saudi government in all required areas.
