Indonesian shares ended 5.1 percent higher on Monday, the biggest single daily percentage gain in 2009, spurred on by a stronger rupiah and confidence over peaceful elections, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index rose 74.65 points to a closing record high for the year of 1,540.40 in large volume.
Coal miner Indo Tambangraya jumped 20 percent to 14,500 rupiah while its rival Indika Energy rose 20 percent to 1,980. Nickel miner Inco gained 9.4 percent to 2,900 on higher commodity prices. The rupiah closed at 11,120 to the dollar compared with 11,385 at the last close.
