Afghan money, weapons being used against army: 10,000 foreigners hiding in tribal, other areas: Malik
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik on Tuesday revealed that more than 10,000 foreigners were hiding in tribal and other areas of Pakistan, who were using Afghan currency and weapons against Pakistan Armed forces.
"Theses foreigners are backing local Taliban and other militants by giving them training of terrorism and are utilising Afghan currency and weapons in terror attacks", Rehman Malik said while talking to reporter after addressing the launching ceremony of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Police for dealing with women and investigating crimes of violence against women formulated by National Public Safety Commission and National Police Bureau, in collaboration with German Technical Co-operation, held here on Tuesday.
"We have solid information that militants are openly using Afghan arms and currency, which means they are getting support across the border", Rehman Malik told reporters.
He said strict action would be taken if TNSM violates peace agreement signed with the provincial government or fails to implement it. The Nizam-e Adl Regulation was invoked in 1994, under which a session judge was named as Qazi. "Every instrument is in place and anyone who tried to take law into his hand would have to face the consequences", Malik said.
To a question regarding the remarks of Moulana Sufi Muhammad, Chief of Tehreek e Nifaze Shariat e Muhammadi (TSNM) regarding Constitution, Parliament and higher judiciary of Pakistan, Rehman Malik said that he had asked the provincial government of NWFP to submit a report in 24 hours regarding Sufi Muhammad's remarks citing the judicial system and constitution un-Islamic.
People like Sufi Mohammad without getting knowledge of constitution are declaring it un-Islamic, while the Constitution ensures national sovereignty, integrity and solidarity, therefore, its sanctity would be maintained, he added.
He termed the instructions issued by some so-called Islamists in Swat and tribal areas to keep women inside homes as against teachings of Islam, saying that these so called champions of Islam want to malign Islam in rest of the world besides depriving Pakistan of uplift opportunities.
He said that schools were being torched to deprive children, the coming generations from education and to train them for terrorism. "They are frightened with the education as they know that education will give people true knowledge of Islam and they will not follow these forces of darkness", he added.
Malik dispelled the impression of carrying begging bowl by present government, saying that Pakistani leadership apprised the world about dangers of war on terror if Pakistan was not supported. "This was the reason that world community has shown its seriousness in supporting Pakistan to make the war on terror a success", he added.
He said our forces are facing shortage of resources and lack of training and present government is making efforts to provide better arms and other modern equipment to them to deal the challenge of terrorism effectively. To a question regarding the interference of Taliban in Indian elections, Rehman Malik said that he had raised the issue with Indian government and asked them to share the information regarding it.
Interior Advisor said that no further progress was made in investigation of Mumbai attacks as after six weeks, India has not yet provided concrete evidences to Pakistan. "Let us move together against our joint enemy. Pakistan is victim of terrorism and who can stop them if terrorists move to India," said Interior Advisor. Earlier, addressing the launching ceremony, he said the SPOs would help rectify the police's image and urged the women force to actively take part in national progress otherwise there would be no solution to their miseries.
He said a proposal has been submitted to Interior Ministry to raise women Elite Force and introduction of police and social services through one-window operations, adding National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) was rendering efficient services in this regard.
Director General National Police Bureau Syed Irshad Hussain said SPOs would help improve image of police force and ensure protection of women rights. He said only the amendments in laws would not help improve the situation rather it needs financial resources as well. He said the new SPOs introduce multiple checks on police services and added that it would also introduce departmental and judicial inquiries against those showing negligence to provide relief to women victims.
