Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, Samina Khalid Ghurki has said that the government will soon establish 'Sweet Homes' for orphan and needy children as alternative to Madrassas across the country. She stated this while chairing a meeting to finalise various social welfare projects and future plans of the ministry here on Thursday.
The minister said that the project of 'Sweet homes' is being launched by Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) for those who want to avoid getting education from 'Madrassas' after the menace of terrorism in the country.
She was of the view that Madrassas were not portraying positive image in many parts of the country in the past few years and there was a need to take appropriate steps for supporting the orphans and needy who join Madrassas for the sake of education and training," she observed. Director General Special Education, Khalid Naeem, Managing Director PBM, Zammurrud Khan and officials of the ministry on the occasion gave recommendations and presentations regarding various welfare and development projects of the ministry to further improve their functioning and efficiencies.
Samina Ghurki asked all ministries and government departments to mention the specific quota for special persons while advertising for vacant posts in their respective departments.
Talking about the procedure of acquiring the certificate of disability, the minister said the process should be made easy, simplify and speedy for the special persons to provide and ensure maximum relief to them. Government, she said was playing its due role for empowering the disabled across the country to make them useful citizens rather considering them a burden on the society.
