"80 percent of the malarial disease would be eradicated by the year 2012 under the complete Malaria Eradication Plan being implemented by the government.' The management of Provincial Malaria Control Programme (MCP) said in a message on the eve of World Malaria day.
The District Officer Health, Dr Mir Ahmed Ali Talpur said this as he read out the message of the Provincial Director, MCP, Dr Naheed Jamali to the participants of the walk arranged by the MCP management Hyderabad yesterday. The walk started from Gymkhana and culminated at the Press Club Hyderabad. The event was organised to mark the World Malaria Day. The doctors, paramedics, nursing staff, lady health workers and elite citizens participated in the walk. They carried play cards inscribed with anti-Malaria slogans and Malaria awareness quotations.
Addressing the participants, Talpur said that the purpose of this walk was to create awareness among the masses for adopting preventive measures against the disease. The Principal, Public School Hyderabad, Dr Anjum Rehman, PRO, DG Health, Dr Rafique Qureshi, Health Education Officer, Tabasum Fatima, Dr Kaisar Zaman Qaimkhani, Mehar Ali Khan and Taj Muhammad Khan Baloch also spoke on the occasion.
They informed the participants that as many as 0.2 million of blood samples were being annually tested to detect the Malaria virus in the masses to control the spread of Malaria in the society. However, they were of the view that the MCP cannot be successful without active participation of the masses. Further, the speakers stressed upon the people to get themselves informed about the preventive measures of Malaria and advised people to take proper medication in case they are infected by the virus.
