A delegation of Sunni Tehreek (ST) led by its leader Maulana Shakeel Qadri called on Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House here on Sunday. The Chief Minister thanked the ST delegation on putting off their "Difa-e-Islam" rally.
Talking to the members of the delegation, Syed Qaim Ali Shah assured them that the provincial government would protect the shrines of Muslim saints, religious places and the holy buildings of minorities in the Sindh Province.
He said the government is against extremism because the Islam is a religion of peace and it teaches universal brotherhood, ethics, forbearance and respect to each other. The Chief Minister said the present government is taking special steps under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari to maintain peace in the entire country. He said the present democratic government would not hesitate to take all possible steps for the security of the country and protection of the life and property of masses.
He said that the present government respects minorities and it is providing equal facilities to them in accordance with the Constitution. He also assured the ST delegation for resolution of their problems and said the government will resolve all of them on priority basis. Among other notables, Sindh Home Minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Advisor to Sindh CM, Rashid Rabbani and Special Assistant to Sindh CM, Waqar Mehdi. The ST delegation apprised the Sindh CM about the objectives of the rally and postponement of the same.
