Development works on Pak-Iran gas pipeline project would be undertaken shortly, the Managing Director, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Abdul Rashid Loan revealed. Talking to Business Recorder he disclosed that the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline project would be accomplished at a cost of $2.5 billion dollars in four years. The SNGPL will undertake the laying of 765 KM long pipeline to link the existing network and necessary arrangement were being given final shape for the purpose, he said.
The MD SNGPL further disclosed that natural gas reservoirs near Kohat had been discovered and work on laying of 24 inches pipeline from Kohat to Peshawar was in full swing. By virtue of this, the country would be able to get additional natural gas by the end of current year. The SNGPL had already initiated work on 20 different sites to explore more natural gas in the country and hopefully more gas reservoirs would be traced in next two years, he disclosed.
About the provision of Sui gas in NA-111, the MD SNGPL said that 180 km long pipeline would be laid at the cost of Rs32o million to provide gas facility in Gondal, Saidpur, Chaprar and Head Marala areas that will benefit 55,000 population of 67 villages. There are 3,190,181 consumers. Out of which, 50,000 are commercial, 3.1 million domestic and 54,442 industrial consumers in the country, while transmission pipelines are of 7016 kilometres in the country he added.
