Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has set up a special center at Peshawar Airport as a preventive measure to block transmission of swine virus by undertaking medical examination of passengers arriving through international flights. "We have made arrangements for undertaking medical check up of passengers arriving at Peshawar through international flights," informed Dr Rakshanda, Health Officer Peshawar Airport.
Dr Rakshanda apprised that soon after receiving reports about spread of swine flu in America, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and some other countries, we prepared a plan for taking preventive measure to curb the spread of deadly strain which has so far claimed more than 149 people in Mexico. Apart from medical examinations of arriving passengers, those travelling abroad are also given instruction about preventive measures to be taken while their stay outside the country.
Posters inscribed with preventive measures about protection from being infected with the disease have also been posted in the departure hall of international flights, she added. We are also advising passengers, travelling abroad, to avoid visiting those areas where the deadly flu is reported. Instructions are also given to the travellers to get vaccinated from Health Department against the disease.
She also informed that arrangements have been made for treatment of any infested patient in the three big hospitals of Peshawar including Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex. If any patient was detected as being infested with the disease, he would be rushed to any of the three hospitals for treatment.
