Director Food Punjab, Muhammad Sheharyar Sultan has directed the district food controllers of the province to personally evaluate the gunny bag stock position in their respective areas and report to the provincial department so as to avoid any sort of hardships to the growers in getting the gunny bags.
These directives were issued by him while presiding over a special meeting held to review the gunny bag stocks position. Additional Director Food Dr Altaf Akbar, Deputy Director Food Lahore region and other officers were also present on the occasion. Director food stated that the government was making all out efforts to supply jute bags to the growers and protecting interests of the farmers in wheat procurement.
He said that the department had distributed over 30 million gunny bags to the farmers and procured 19,21,858 metric tons of wheat till April 29, 2009. He stated that on April 29, the department procured 2,07,428 metric tons of wheat from the growers.
Muhammad Sheharyar Sultan directed all the district food controllers to look for private godowns in their respective areas where wheat brought by the farmers in their own bags could be stored. He also said that all efforts should be made to make the procurement campaign transparent.
