Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said that he would take action against land mafia on his return to the country, Aaj TV reported. Speaking at a joint press conference with Muttahida Qaumi Movement Quaid Altaf Hussain in London, he said all the five agencies of Fata, the government and the Army have tried together everything possible for maintaining peace. Everybody knows the situation the country is faced with, he said.
Operation in Buner and other areas was in accordance with people's wishes and Awami National Party's sentiments are also laudable, he added. He said he is grateful to Altaf Bhai for drawing attention to vital issues. Action will be taken against anybody challenging the writ of the govt, Rehman said.
Like the President, Altaf Bhai's slogan is also "Pakistan Khappe" (Long live Pakistan). Muttahida Qaumi Movement Quaid Altaf Hussain said: "I salute the government, army and police officers for action taken by them against Talibanisation and the admire the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
MQM and PPP have resolved to stand together against Taliban, he added. Before meeting with MQM leader Altaf Hussain, Interior Minister Rehman Malik talked media persons in London and said that land mafia seized some parts of Karachi and government would take stern action against them regardless of their affiliation with any political party.
He said a survey would be conducted for people who came to Karachi from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). They are residing in camps in Karachi like other parts of the country and some miscreants might have been mingled with these displaced persons, therefore, survey will be carried out to sort them out.
He said third factor is behind the incidents of Fata, Swat, Balochistan and Karachi. He urged for national unity to defeat these elements. The interior minister praised the efforts of MQM chief Altaf Hussain for restoration of peace in Karachi. He vowed to deal those with iron hands who have challenged the writ of the government.
