The National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology stressed the need for Alternative Energy Sources to overcome the energy crises. The Committee recommended that the Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) and Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technology (PCRET) be merged, as mandate of both the organisations were the same.
The meeting held on Monday in the Parliament House, Islamabad under the chairmanship of Dr Abdul Qadir Khanzada, MNA was given briefing on the working of Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, NWFP centre. The committee evaluated the performance of Material Science Centre, PCSIR laboratories, NWFP, and recommended that technologies be developed to manufacture the materials being imported for industrial utilisation.
This will not only save huge foreign exchange for the country but also make the country self-sustained. The committee also evaluated the performance of Medicinal Botanical Center. The Centre is providing services to herbal pharmaceutical companies and industrial chemical sectors. The committee recommended that the herbal products processed by the Centre be approved by the Ministry of Health. MNAs Anusha Rehman Khan Advocate, Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, Akram Masih Gill, Zafar Beg Bhittani and Azam Khan Sawati, Minister for Science & Technology were present in the meeting.-PR
