Top brass of Pakistan Army on Wednesday expressed complete satisfaction over the ongoing military operation against militants in Swat and other parts of Malakand and reaffirmed its commitment to continue the operation till militants are wiped out of the area. Military hierarchy met here with Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashfaq Parvaiz Kayani in chair.
Later, General Kayani presided over a high-level meeting of Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers at General Headquarters here. The CoAS who has arrived after a brief visit of France and Belgium, immediately called a high-level meeting in the GHQ to review the progress of ongoing military operations in Malakand and Swat.
General Kayani briefed his sub-ordinate generals about his visit in purview of the military operation against the militants, informed sources said, adding that the brief visit of General Kayani to France was of significance to gain international support for the military operation.
General Kayani during his visit to Paris met French President Sarkozy, while in Brussels General Kayani held meeting with Jaap de Hoop, Secretary General Nato. He visited Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers in Europe (Shape) and Nato. The COAS called on General Bantz J Cardock, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Admiral Giampaolo Dl Paola, Chairman Military Committee.
He also addressed a special meeting of Chairman Military Committee for Nato. Addressing the meeting, General Kayani stressed the need for provision of every facility to the internally displaced persons of Malakand saying that these people are the victims of terrorism and the nation should contribute to help them in this hour of need.
The Army Chief lauded the progress in the military operation against militants in Swat Valley and other parts of Malakand Division, saying that the operation was launched to save Pakistan and it will continue till the area is cleared of miscreants.
He praised the high morale of the military, saying that Pakistan Army is fighting 'saving Pakistan' war. The meeting discussed the counter-insurgency drive in Swat and other areas and also reviewed the matters relating to the rehabilitation of the displaced persons.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has established relief fund for the Internally Displaced Persons of Malakand Division and opened a relief account in Askari Bank. The military has appealed to the philanthropists to deposit their donations in the relief fund for the affected persons of Malakand. The Army has announced to give part of its routine ration to IDPs, besides it has sent essential commodities including tents, blankets, clothes and edibles to different camps of IDPs.
