The Lahore High Court was moved on Saturday against bottled drinking water which allegedly caused of various human diseases. Petition was filed by President Watan Party, (Punjab Chapter), Hashim Shaukat Khan, through counsel Barrister Zafarullah Khan.
Petitioner submitted that he felt aggrieved by the supply of bottled water by various companies, which was adulterated, contaminated, stale and mostly filtered tap water. He said the plastic bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate, has been linked to breast and uterine cancer, an increased risk of miscarriage and decreased testosterone levels and it interferes with body's natural hormonal messaging system.
He said most of the companies supplying bottled water never write on their labels that from where they were getting water. Petitioner prayed to the court that all bottled water should be tested by reliable laboratories before supplying for human consumption. Petitioner also requested the court to hear this petition along with his already pending petition against the supply of adulterated milk.
