Satellite hospital to be set up for IDPs

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) will set up a satellite hospital for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to provide them best medical care. Executive Director PIMS Dr Altaf Hussain while talking to APP on Saturday said that the hospital to be established at Pabbi will have all basic health facilities.
He further said besides IDPs settled population of the area can also avail health facilities from such hospital being established in Pabbi Complex Hospital near GT Road. He said special services will be provided to coming patients including trauma and emergency, medical and surgical, paediatrics, gynae, ophthalmology, psychiatry and blood transfusion.
He said besides ambulance services, a diagnostic service including radiology and basic pathology will also be made available for victims. ED PIMS said that PIMS has already established a 20-bed field hospital at Jalozai IDPs camp where so far 3,380 patients have been attended by the doctors.
He said out of total 1,077 female while 1,923 male patients have been provided medical facilities at the camp. He added that the institute has provided medicines and surgical supplies of worth Rs 4 million so far besides other support.
He said 10 teams have been formed of doctors, nurses and paramedics that visit daily on rotation while two specialists also visit daily to medical camp. He said each team has two female and three male doctors, three nurses, seven paramedics and 12 supporting staff, adding, an average 500 patients visit medical camp daily.
Dr Altaf Hussain said facilities being provided at Jalozai field hospital included OPD, pharmacy for free medicines, minor operation theatre for minor to major operations, ambulance service for referrals and free food for admitted patients.
He said for basic laboratory tests including ECG, ultrasound a diagnostic facility has also been provided while a mobile mother and child health care unit has also been set up with the support of UNFPA. He said the hospital has adopted the policy of deploying doctors and nurses belonging to the affected areas to ensure better communication with the patients and attendants.
He added the PIMS administration has now planned to deploy regular work force at site health facilities of PIMS on contract hiring basis to ensure standardisation of services. He added such personnel will be deployed at such health facilities in IDPs camps after providing basic training to them. He said the hospital has started mobilisation of financial resources to ensure suitability.
