The government of NWFP requires at least 50,000 bottles of anti- mosquito medicines to protect internally displaced persons (IDPs) from biting of mosquitos and prevention of the outbreak of malaria in the camps. More than 3 million people have been reportedly displaced so far due to the military operation in Malakand division.
The security forces have been deployed in Swat, Buner and Dir Lower to hunt down the militants of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Swat. The government has established 10 camps in different districts of the province to accommodate and provide relief goods to them.
The provincial government in its limited resources is not in a position to provide basic requirements of the use to the displaced persons. However, it had launched registration of the IDPs through establishing more than 90 registration outlets in different parts of the province.
Federal government of Pakistan has given about Rs 1.5 billion to the province for provision of relief to the displaced persons while donors including United States, Britain, France have pledged financial assistance. Royal family of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had also dispatched both food and non-food relief goods for the affected people.
All members of the parliament and state assemblies had donated their one salary for the welfare of the IDPs while government employees have gone for one-day salary. Several welfare organisations had established camps and collecting donations for the relief of the migrated people.
The donor organisations and resourceful people had started sending enormous relief goods including both food and non-food items. However, the provincial government still require 10,500 pedestal fans, 10,000 water coolers, 20,000 plastic sheets and 15,000 bags of baby formula milk of one-kilogram. The non-food, but essential items for the IDPs are included tents, water coolers, soap, caps for children and summer clothes, particularly for women, preferably cotton and full sleeves, mosquito nets and toys for children.
