The scholars and educationists, stressing the need for the empowerment of women, have urged the government to provide more opportunities to them to establish separate teachers' commission for recruitment and training and courts should be headed by the women Judges.
Expressing their views on one-day national seminar on 'Women Empowerment' organised by the Institute of Women Development Studies, Sindh University, Jamshoro, on Tuesday, the speakers also demanded the appointment of women as member of Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) and reservation of seats in Civil Service group.
They have urged the government for recognition of labour work of women in agriculture sector and also ensured to provide facilities of loans with easy instalment for establishment of their own business by the women. The scholars while expressing great concerned over violation against women also suggested to set up separate courts headed by women judges.
Provincial Minister for Women Development Sindh Tauqir Fatima Bhutto, who was the chief guest on the occasion, has urged the academicians to play vital role in women empowerment by educating every girl of the province and developing awareness among the masses for girl's education.
Bhutto said that change in attitude among people is the most important element and added that for this change in minds of the people a collective move is needed. She, while underlining motivation for girl's education among masses said that girl's education is essential for bringing change in society.
She said that their Ministry is advocating the rights of women especially, rural women of Sindh and initiated different women development programs. She announced the opening of Poly-technical Institute and also on SU Campus. She also appreciated efforts of Institute of Women Development Studies for women development and empowerment of women through education and vocational programmes.
Vice Chancellor, SU, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who presided over the seminar said that education, justice are soul of any society and women development is foundation of the society.
He said that pursuit of knowledge is essential and it is most important to pay attention on girl's education. We can strengthen our country by educating our women of rural and urban areas and the empowerment of women link with the education of women. He highlights the need of women members at Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) and separate commission for teachers.
Secretary Women Development Gul Muhammad Umrani speaking on the occasion highlighted efforts of the Ministry of Women Development Sindh. He said that in entire Sindh many women are affected by domestic violence and added that in majority of cases police is unable to help them. He said that interaction between academicians and legislators on issues of women development will be result oriented.
He said that for technical education among women in Sindh their Ministry has been opening Poly-technical institute and in first phase it will be opened up at Shaheed Benzair Bhuttoabad. Director IWDS Dr Parveen Shah highlighted aims and objectives of the seminar and work and progress of the institute.
Dr Khalida Jamali in her paper on 'Social Constraints: Women Empowerment in Pakistan' said that women empowerment is a symbol of development of any country. She said that women need encouragement so that they can come forward and play their due role in development of their families, society and nation.
She said that women empowerment is an important issue in Pakistan, after 62 years of independence the condition of women is still wretched. Dr Mahmoodul Hassan Mughal in his paper, highlighting the health problems among women Dr Mughal, referring to his a research study, said that out of 130 women only 7 women enjoying facility of yearly routine medical check up. He said that good health give good result and good health would give good society as well.
On this occasion Ameer Ali Buriro, Dure Shahwar and others also expressed their views. The seminar was largely attended by the scholars, teachers and students from different institutes and Departments University of Sindh.
