Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Wednesday announced setting up of modern and well-equipped burn unit in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Rawalpindi.
"Twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are lacking a well-equipped burn center, resulting in maximum deaths in burn cases and forcing people to go to go to Jhelum or Taxila for treatment," said RCCI President Syed Asad Mashhadi while talking to Dr Khalid Iqbal Malik, Medical Superintendent, during his visit to DHQ Hospital, here on Wednesday.
The business community under the banner of RCCI will bear the total cost of the burn unit and most modern equipment would be installed to provide better healthcare to people, Mashhadi said. He said that RCCI has decided to work for the betterment of the people of Rawalpindi and in this regard practical work would start from DHQ Hospital.
"A trust would soon be constituted under the auspices of RCCI to carry out welfare projects in a co-ordinated and befitting manner. It will be formally announced after approval of the executive committee," he added. On the occasion, RCCI Vice President Imtiaz Chaudhry announced building two fibre sheds outside the hospital for the attendants and relatives of the patients and donated two electric water coolers for the premises.
"All types of clinical tests, blood transfusion facility with screening, free of cost dialysis, medical equipment and medicines are being provided free of cost in the hospital to the deserving people. In addition, CT scan has also been installed in the hospital where a nominal fee is being charged from patients, MS Dr Khalid informed the delegation.
He said that soon land of adjacent cinema house will be handed over to the hospital and after that extension would be carried out and three new wards would be constructed there. The delegation was taken round of different departments of the hospital where it showed keen interest in the newly built emergency ward, C T Scan and Dialysis Center, Operation Theatre and blood screening unit. Syed Asad Mashhadi also announced special achievement award for Medical Superintendent Dr Khalid Iqbal Malik for his meritorious services.
