State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bokhari said on Wednesday that 50 percent of the assistance pledged by the international community for internally displaced persons has reached Pakistan. Talking to state TV, he said IDPs are their own brothers and the government will use all its available resources to facilitate them.
He said the government has also cut its development budget to provide assistance to the IDPs. The Minister said after the measures taken by the government situation has much improved in the camps. To a question, he said the ongoing registration process has revealed that the actual displaced persons are less than expectation.
He said assistance from the government and political parties also had reached the IDPs camps. To a question he said Nadra has opened many registration centers while mobile teams are working in the camps to register the IDPs. He said only registered IDPs will be qualified for cash assistance announced by the government.
