Pakistan has become a signatory of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) along with other 87 countries of the world. The Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany Shahid Kamal signed the statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency on behalf of the Government of Pakistan at a special signing ceremony held at German Foreign Office.
Thomas H. Meister, Head of Department of International Energy Politics in the German Foreign Office was present on this occasion, says a press release received here from Berlin.
The initiative to form IRENA was pioneered by Federal Republic of Germany in January 2009. IRENA will be an inter-governmental organisation to provide policy advice and facilitate capacity building and technology transfer with a view to promote sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy resources including bio, geothermal, solar, wind and tidal energies. The Agency would also promote knowledge and transfer of technology in order to develop local capacity in the member states.-PR
