Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP), Sahiwal Regional General Manager, Malik Niaz Hussain said that PRSP is playing a vital role in strengthening of livestock extension services at grass-root level across the Punjab.
He was addressing a certification distribution ceremony of one-month community livestock extension workers (CLEWs) training programme under the Prime Minister's Special Initiative for Livestock at Ravi Campus of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) at Pattoki on Friday.
Malik Niaz urged the training participants to apply their knowledge in the field and mobilise local communities for better health of animals and development of livestock sector. He asked them to work honestly and create awareness among farmers about the importance of vaccination in animals and prevention of diseases through better nutrition and management.
Project Director Prime Minister's Special Initiatives for Livestock, Dr Sana Ullah Bhatti said that after completing their training the CLEWs will go to their respective areas and work for the development of livestock sector, consequently contributing to rural uplift. He said that CLEWs are being selected for training from all the districts of Punjab in phases.
Director Institute of Continuing Education and Extension, Dr Salah-ud-Din said that the community livestock extension workers have been trained in vaccination, deworming, animal breeding, feeding, management and community mobilisation skills. He said that the third batch of 45 trainees completing the extension worker's course while the fourth batch will begin its training at the UVAS next week. He said that this process of training will continue for the welfare of community and rural farmers. He said that the UVAS has initiated various training courses in collaboration with public and private sector organisations ie NUDP, Nestle Pakistan, NRSP, PRSP, SLSP, ASLP, L&DDB, etc.
Manager Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research of the Prime Minister's Special Initiative for Livestock Javed Shabbir, Salman Siddique from PRSP and ICE&E faculty members were also present on the occasion.
