The Sindh government is likely to appoint at least 10,000 jobless youths in the police force after the presentation of the fiscal year 2009-10 budget, reliable sources told Business Recorder on Friday. They said that during his recent visit of the metropolis, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani had given the assurance that the Federal government would extend help to the Provincial government for their recruitment.
The PM had also instructed the Provincial authorities to finalise the paperwork so that recruitments could be made soon after the budget, they added. Sources said that the Home Department had prepared a summary of the recruitments and forwarded it to the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah for approval.
An amount of Rs 1.92 billion has been sought in the summary, which would be utilised for the salaries of the new appointees, police vehicles, training, purchase of weapons, uniforms etc.
They said that the Federal government had announced immediate payment of Rs 1 billion for the project last year, but the amount was not released due to bureaucratic hurdles, adding that priority was being given to the law and order situation as it was getting from bad to worse. Sources said that the new appointees would be imparted with modern anti-terrorism training, which would help contain criminal activities in the province, besides ensuring the security of foreigners, particularly of investors. The previous governments had imposed a ban on fresh recruitments, which had been lifted by the Sindh government a few days back to provide youths with jobs.
The Chief Minister, the sources further added, would sign the summary shortly, after which the Federal Home Ministry would be approached for the transfer of funds, as soon as possible, so that appointments could be made in the shortest period, in view of the prevailing law and order situation. These jobs would be provided only on merit and advertisements for the jobs would be published in the local dailies.
