Six more political parties activists has fallen prey to target killings on Monday continued in different parts of the city raised death toll to 35 in last five days. Prime Minister Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani taking strict notice of ongoing target killings in Karachi has called an emergency meeting to discuss law and order situation.
The prime minister condemned such incidents, directed provincial government to ensure peace in the metropolis. Prime minister ordered Sindh government to take remedial steps to overcome worsening law and order situation. He was of the view it is the responsibility of provincial government to provide safety of life and property to the citizen. He also directed to bring book the culprit involved and dealt them with iron hand.
It is said among six victims, three belong to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and three others were linked with Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H). Three people including a teenager and an activist of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) was shot dead when unknown armed men sprayed bullets on them near Haji Fareed Goth, Gulbahar. Police sources said that the killers targeted Muhammad Naeem worker of MQM-H, but an ice-ball (Gola Ganda) vendor Bashir and 11-year-old boy Alam also came in the range.
An activist of MQM-H Aamir Bin Nasir, 25, son of Nasir Khan was shot dead by unknown armed men near Babar Market Landhi at around 8:15am. Landhi police have registered a FIR on request of victim's father under section 302, article 34 of Pakistan Panel Code (PPC) against unknown culprits.
According to police, some unidentified persons on motorbike gunned down Saifullah Siddiqui, 45, Ahmadul Haq Siddiqui near Gol Market in jurisdiction of Shamim Shaheed police station at around 6:30am. Sources at police station confirmed that deceased was an active worker of MQM of the area.
In another incident, Faheem-ud-Din son of Zaheer-ud-Din was shot dead by two bike riders near Sikandarabad in the limits of Liaquatabad police station. Sources at police station said the victim is said to be the worker of MQM and was on his way to home after offering Namaz-e-Fajr at Masjid Quba.
Another MQM worker was reportedly killed by unknown armed men near Dastagir at around 3am. Later, he was identified as Sabtin Raza, 45, who was intercepted by two bike riders and sprayed him with bullets due to which he died instantly. Police sources said that the deceased known as the worker of MQM.
A state agent was reportedly killed by unknown armed men near Anda Mor, North Karachi when he was going back to his home. Police sources at Sir Syed police station said the deceased is said to be the worker of MQM-H. However, name of the deceased could not be ascertained till filing this news story.
Meanwhile, briefing newsmen about the cabinet proceedings regarding ongoing target killings, Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri said the cabinet expressed concern over continued target killings in the city and said the Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza would hold a meeting with IGP Sindh, CCPO Karachi and representative of other law enforcement agencies.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah would convene the meeting, which is scheduled to be held today (Tuesday), to solely focus on law and order, she said, adding that Zulfiqar Mirza told the cabinet that situation has remained sensitive since June 1 and 31 political party activists become victims of target killings.
She highlighted Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony and Malir among the most disturbed areas and said extra police forces have been deployed. To a question, Marri said various steps are being taken to overcome law and order problem and ban on pillion riding is among such preventive step. She disclosed that police made some arrests and lodged FIRs and those arrested are being interrogated. Sources at Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Media cell confirmed killing of 12 party workers and reported 06 other sustained bullet injuries in spree of target killing.
