Leader of the House in Senate, Nayyar Hussain Bokhari on Tuesday asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to make all-out efforts to ensure provision of basic necessities of life in the rural areas of federal capital.
"People of certain rural areas of Islamabad are facing problems in getting electricity connections and installation of new meters, civic bodies and service providers make sure to resolve these issues," Bokhari said while presiding over a meeting at the Parliament House which was attended by high ranking officials of the CDA and Iesco.
Bokhari said that people are not being provided facilities as the urban areas of Islamabad. He observed that the current procedure was quite cumbersome and there was dire need to simplify the mechanism with a view to facilitating people living in rural areas.
He directed the CDA and the Iesco to adopt people-friendly policies and facilitate people of the rural areas. The Leader of the House said that the government was fully committed to improving the livelihood of common men and all the ministries and government departments must show professionalism to achieve the desired objectives.
The CDA officials and Iesco informed the meeting about the procedure that has been adopted for issuance of electricity connections. Both assured to simplify the procedure of installation of new meters.
The meeting was also attended by elders of the rural areas of the federal capital. They also apprised the meeting about the hardships that were being faced in getting approval for new electricity connections. They demanded that the procedure should be made easy and double standards should be avoided to facilitate the poor people. Meanwhile, CDA has given go ahead to Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) for launch of ambitious housing scheme for the officers of various occupational groups in BPS-17 and above.
The PHA would launch this housing scheme in the Kurri Road Area on the outskirts of Islamabad. The CDA Chairman has issued the letter to PHA for establishment of housing project and construction of houses for federal government employees. The PHA is launching the housing scheme under the clear directives of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to overcome the chronic shortage of housing units throughout the country. The Housing Ministry will soon launch similar schemes in the four provinces for low-paid federal government employees.
