The Lahore High Court (LHC) disposed of a petition, filed by Professor Neuro surgery, Dr Nasir Ahmed, alleging that the Punjab government was, in violation of all rules, attempting to appoint a person of their choice as Principal of Lahore General Hospital (LGH), when secretary health Punjab assured the Court that all appointments for the post of Principal shall be made on merits.
The secretary also assured the court that the petitioner, who ranks in merits and as per seniority list will be considered by the Board. The Court was also informed that the previous decision of the Board had already been set aside and the Chief Minister had said the Board to reconsider and submit fresh recommendations.
Earlier, Barrister Ali Zafar argued that under the law the Board of PGMI is required to deliberate and recommend the list of three professors on merits for appointment of Principal and that the Government could only consider the most eligible person. In addition, the Board is bound under the law to hold a meeting to nominate suitable candidates for the post of Principal, which in this case was not done.
