Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan said on Tuesday that his government has imposed ban on use of cell phones and smoking in educational institutions of AJK. He also urged the youths to give up smoking and concentrate on education and sports, which help to develop discipline in the life.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony at the end of Azad Kashmir National Hockey Championship here, he said the government is taking especial steps for promotion of sports in the State and urged to develop sportsman spirit among the new generation.
In all, eight teams participated in the event while the Poonchh team defeated Sidhnoti with two goals and won the championship. Giving away trophies and other prizes, PM appreciated the performance of two teams and said that winning and losing was part of the game.
Praising the sports minister of AJK Tahir Khokhar, he said sports activities had got momentum owing to efforts of minister. "First time in the history of AJK, paragliding was held here and witnessed by thousands of people," he added saying that budget for sports activities was being enhanced besides ensuring facilities for the players.
"The government would fulfil all the needs of sports clubs of AJK besides developing new stadiums and repairing the existing ones," he said adding that the construction of stadiums at Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot would be completed in six months.
Sardar Yaqoob Khan said other banks should also sponsor the sports activities in AJK like National Bank, as they earn huge money from this State. "I held a meeting recently with the officials of banks and asked them to take part in social welfare activities."
