Four persons of a family were killed when a rickshaw collided with a train near Jahanian on Wednesday morning. The Railway officials said the family belonged to Hasilpur, district Bahawalpur. The rickshaw was crossing a gateless level crossing near Chak 148/10-R when it hit the train- Down 144 Bahawalpur Express which was on its way to Sama Satta from Narowal.
As a result, Shakila Bibi wife of Altaf Hussain, her mother Khurshid Bibi wife of Hakim Ali, Nooran Bibi wife of Muhammad Khan Sindhu and Shakila Bibi's mother-in-law and Shakila's two-month-old baby Shazia Perveen died on the spot. Rickshaw driver Riffat and his brother Saeed sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Nishtar Hospital Multan.
It is pertinent to mention here that a few months back, six members of a family riding a car were killed when their vehicle was hit by a train at the same level crossing. The people stressed upon the Railway authorities either to fix a gate and appoint a man to operate it or else the level crossing should be abolished to prevent loss of lives.
