The occupation authorities have taken strict measures in Shopian in occupied Kashmir to thwart the pro-freedom demonstrations as the strike against the rape and murder of two women entered into 22nd day on Sunday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, hundreds of Indian police and Central Reserved Police Force personnel had been deployed in the main town and adjoining localities sealing off the whole area.
The residents of Shopian said that the troops, who were manning every point, did not allow them to venture out of their homes, making them hostage, and curtailed their movement for demanding justice.
Mohammad Shafi Khan, Vice President of the Majlis-e-Mashawart, spearheading agitation for justice in Shopian, said that the puppet authorities had imposed undeclared curfew. He said that due to restrictions and on going strike against the tragic incident, shops, banks, other business establishments and educational institutions remained closed for the 23rd day while traffic was off the road.
Stating that the puppet administration was trying to shield the guilty, Khan said the authorities were not arresting the culprits even after they had been exposed by two eyewitnesses. "It is shame on part of the administration that instead of putting the culprits behind the bars it is putting us under siege for demanding justice" he added.
He vowed to continue the strike and protests till the perpetrators of the heinous crime were brought to book and punished. The residents of Rangroo Mohalla Shopian said that the Indian troopers without any provocation barged into their houses and beat the inmates indiscriminately.
