Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that billions of rupees have been allocated in the provincial budget for the projects of public welfare and provision of basic amenities to the masses and completion of these projects will leave a positive impact on the life of the common man.
He was talking to Assembly Members belonging to various districts, who met him here on Friday. He said that Annual Development Programme (ADP) had been prepared in accordance with the needs of the people and top priority had been given to the projects aimed at poverty alleviation, elimination of illiteracy and unemployment from the province.
He said that huge funds of Rs 175 billion had been allocated for ADP, which would boost economic activities in the province. He stressed upon Assembly Members to ensure public participation in development activities as well as solution of peoples' problems.
The Chief Minister said that service of the people and solution of their problems was the mission of the government and no effort would be spared in this regard. The government was working with a missionary zeal to redress grievances of the oppressed and hapless people, provision of justice and giving them a respectable status in the society, he said adding that revolutionary welfare projects like Food Support Programme and Sasti Roti Scheme were running successfully and similar projects had also been given preference in the provincial budget and ADP.
He said that Punjab Food Support Programme was a model welfare project and thousands of poor families living below the poverty line were benefiting from this project. He said that a comprehensive programme was being started for imparting various skills to the children of destitute families who were benefiting from Food Support Programme for their permanent rehabilitation. He said that the sphere of Sasti Roti Scheme was also being expanded so that maximum number of poor people could benefit from this programme while an authority had also been established to further improve this project.
The Chief Minister further said that government was implementing a comprehensive strategy for strengthening education, health, agriculture, industry and other social sectors. He said that the steps taken for the welfare of farmers had also left a positive impact on agriculture sector and solid measures were being taken for the promotion of modern agriculture technology and dissemination of the results of latest research to the farmers.
A comprehensive strategy had been adopted for the rapid development and uplift of backward and far-flung areas, he said adding that infrastructure played an important role in development, therefore, huge funds had been allocated in the provincial budget for its development.
Those who met the Chief Minister include Shazia Ashfaq Mannu, Sardar Mir Badshah Qaisarani, Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Malik Bilal Ahmad Khar, Sheharyar Riaz and Zia Ullah Shah.
