SLSP Sindh holds medical camp in remote areas

The Strengthening of Livestock Services Project Sindh, in collaboration with the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, organised a field day for animals, for poor and needy farmers, at a remote village, Ticco Baran, Taluka Thana Bola Khan, on Friday, June 25. The facility began very early in the morning and continued till late in the evening.
The field team consisted of 20 Veterinarians and Stock Assistants, headed by Mr Trevlyn Webb, EU Co- Manager and Dr Ghulam Sarwar Shaikh, Director Animal Husbandry. The drenched, and vaccinated 3000 animals included goats, sheep and cattle. They also took blood samples for laboratory tests at the Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Tando Jam. The free medical camp for animals was a part of the farmer's awareness campaign of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry.
The team visited villages in the far-flung areas, and provided farmers, with information on the prevention of livestock diseases, especially in this monsoon season, which may create the threat of diseases in the area. A population of more than twenty thousand small animals, cattle and camels, was registered in the area, facing multiple disease problems, like Parasitic, Caprine Pleuro Pneumonia and Anemia, with contaminated, or no water, and little land for grazing.
Addressing the farmers, Dr Trevlyn Webb said that development, in these, is needed desperately, but farmers themselves should also become aware and take care of their animals properly. He also shared his experiences of livestock breeding and selection.
He emphasised that farmers should go for sound breeds, as well as those for commercial, dairy and meat production purposes. Dr Ghulam Sarwar Sheikh, Director Animal Husbandry, urged farmers to remain in contact with the Livestock Department and report problems regarding livestock. He said that such medical camps would regularly be held in other areas also.
He also said that a mobile veterinary unit would regularly visit these remote areas to provide medical facilities and educate farmers on livestock issues. At a medical camp, Abdul Latif Brohi DDO Thanas Bola Khan, Dr Sabir Ali Shah DLO Jamshoro, Dr Tejmal Disease Investigation Officer, and Dr Liaqat Ali Jat Incharge Epidemiological Center Hyderabad were also present and shared their views on animal health in the area.
