Cotton growers warned against 'Jassid' attack

The Punjab agriculture department has warned the cotton growers to pay special attention to their crop, as heavy rains and increased moisture have increased the threat of attack of 'Jassid' on the crop. Growers have been advised to ensure regular pest scouting of the crop for control of Jassid and if its numbers reach to dangerous level then pesticides should be used in consultation with the experts of the agriculture department.
The department also stressed that growers should pay special attention on eradication of weeds from the fields and ensure that rain water should not stay in the field more than 24 hours. It advised that rain water standing in cotton field should be discharged to some empty field and if discharge of water from cotton crop is not possible then a ditch should be dug out at one side of the field and that water should be stored in it.
