Empowering women plays a key role towards the economic development of Pakistan, as over 50 percent country's population comprises women. This was stated by Rehana G Ali Memon, Special Secretary, (Technical) Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh, and Provincial Project Director of Gender Based Governance (GBG) System.
She was addressing at the concluding session of a two-day training workshop for trainers under the GBG. Rehana appreciated the efforts of GBG and its partner training institution for effectively delivery of GBG trainings promoting women's access to economic, political and social empowerment at Provincial, District, Taluka levels.
She said GBG had one of its three outcomes 'Strengthening Public Training Institutions' particularly building capacities of their trainers to deliver gender based training. GBG project in this regard organises different types' capacity building activities such as orientation workshops, training of trainers, feedback meetings and knowledge sharing.
Earlier, Provincial Project Manager (PPM) GBG Abdul Fattah Tunio introduced the topics and shared observations collected during monitoring visits, progress made in last quarter and target given for current quarter (July-September-09).
It was informed that 199 government functionaries (Planning Officers and UC Secretaries) were trained against target of 200 and 1,740 women leaders were trained against target of 2,000 in last quarter, whereas 300 government functionaries and 1,260 women leaders would be trained in current quarter.
As many as 14 existing and five new trainers from six partner training institutions of GBG including SZABIST, IBA Sukkur, PIM, Karachi, CRDC University of Sindh, CIIM, Karachi and Sindh Civil Services and Local Government Academy Tando Jam participated in two-day event. Provincial Project Implementation Unit organised two-day Trainers Feedback meeting and Knowledge Sharing for Improvement of Training Quality under GBG Systems Project of UNDP and the Government of Pakistan, being implemented by Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh at SZABIST Karachi.
