Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mohammad Azam Khan Swati has expressed the government's firm resolve to support the private sector in fulfilling the noble objectives and supporting the people at the grassroots level.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of Installation Ceremony of the newly elected President of the Rotary Club of Islamabad, Akbar Hayat Gandapur and his board members, the other day. The Minister appreciated the role being performed by the Rotary International for helping the suffering humanity throughout the world for last over one century.
He commended the RCIM for their spirit of sacrifice and patriotism and assured them of government's full support. He also distributed awards to the members of the RCIM outgoing board. The outgoing RCIM President Ms Aabira Sher Afgan in her welcome address highlighted the activities of the Club during the last one year. In particular, she mentioned about the MoU signed between the Club and the Federal Directorate of Education, Government of Pakistan, in regard to adoption of village Uppran Guhra Higher Secondary and Primary Girls Schools for a period of five years under the Public-Private Partnership Programme.
The Club has already set up a computer lab, a fully furnished library, provided missing furniture for some classroom and the play equipment as well as installed water cooler with filters. Yet another MoU was concluded with the Samaat Television for supporting the Youth Journalism Programme. RCIM also assisted the government in eradication of polio disease.
The incoming Rotary Club President Akbar Hayat Gandapur, in his taking over statement, appreciated the efforts made by the outgoing President and her board members and vowed to improve and upgrade the club. The RI District Governor (2009-10), Rotarian Usman Masud, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the performance of the Rotary club of Islamabad (metropolitan) which had won two District Governor's Awards - one for the Best Social Service Project and another for Best Secretary given to Rotarian Hans Frey.
While promising full support to the new RCIM President, he hoped that the Club would continue providing social services as per Rotary International motto 'Service Above self' The formal part of the function concluded with the vote of thanks given by the Rotarian Ambassador Sultan Hayat Khan.
