Cross-border attack on Pakistani troops unacceptable: Governor KPK

KARACHI: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the NATO cross-border air attack in which at least 24 Pakistani troops were killed and more than 14 injured early Saturday morning, is unacceptable.

Addressing the media at the Islamabad Press Club, governor KPK condemned the attack and said that the blood of the fallen soldiers will not be spilt in vain.

To a question that Pakistan had blocked the supply route following the attack, Barrister Kausar said the attack will not go unnoticed.

The governor criticized the incident and called it “an attack on Pakistani sovereignty.”

It was reported that NATO helicopters fired on an army checkpost in an unprovoked attack killing at least 24 soldiers in the northwest of Pakistan.

Pakistan closed the key border crossing used by coalition forces as a supply route for their troops in neighbouring Afghanistan after the attack.

The incident comes after over a year when a US helicopter accidentally killed two Pakistani soldiers near the Afghan border mistaking them for insurgents. Pakistan responded by closing the Torkham border crossing to NATO supplies for 10 days until the US apologised.
