Dr Adib Rizvi of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has said that a day would dawn when the accusations of terrorism and the shame of organs' trade will be washed away by proactive youths though their united efforts. Addressing volunteers in a ceremony organised in connection with Independence Day celebrations at SIUT on Friday.
Dr Rizvi observed that though the Federal Shariat Court had cleared the Human Organ Transplantation Bill-2009, but the institute faced difficulties in implementation of the law. Terming the current education system as class-based he underlined the need for introducing a unified education system in the country.
Health and education remain at the lowest of government's priority list, which was hindering development of the country. "Over the years, student volunteers have participated in many activities of SIUT from cleaning of wards to organising record rooms, making data entries and most of all caring of patients", he said, adding that more 1800
student till now attended the volunteer course and completed 65,000 hours of community work." Dr Adib Rizvi appreciated the effort of all students' volunteers of SIUT. Aysha Shaikh, a student volunteer, presented Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah's 11th August 1947 speech, which strengthened the idea that we need to work for people as a whole and not create divisions based on religion, caste and creed.
Student volunteers after attending Independence Day celebrations in their various schools participaated in the annual programme. Students reaffirmed their commitment to aiding people in need and started the day with visiting children in the pediatric wards. They pledged that they would continue to use what they have learnt as volunteers to serve humanity.
