Indonesian police said Wednesday they arrested two people including a Saudi Arabian for alleged involvement in bombing attacks at two Jakarta hotels last month that killing nine people. National police spokesman Nanan Soekarna identified the two only as Iwan and Ali, who were detained for suspected links to the July 17 bombing attacks of JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels.
"Iwan and Ali are still being questioned for their alleged involvement in the attacks, and in connection with another country related to the funding," Soekarna told reporters. "Ali is suspected to be Saudi Arabian. Investigations are still underway to determine his nationality," he said.
Police also identified Saifuddin Zuhri bin Djaelani Irsyad as playing a role in last month's bombings. The Islamic cleric was accused of having recruited at least one of the suicide bombers. Authorities suspect fugitive Noordin Mohammed Top, South-east Asia's most-wanted terrorist, of being the mastermind behind the co-ordinated bombings.
