Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on the basis of astronomical calculations, disclosed that Eidul Fitr is likely to be observed on September 21 (Monday). The department has indicated bright chances of sighting the new moon of Shawwal 1430 Hijri in the evening of September 20 in most parts of the country.
While elaborating the technical aspects, the spokesman of PMD informed that the threshold values of the astronomical parameters are essential for sighting the new moon of Shawwal, 1430 Hijri. Age of new moon should be more than 31 hours at the time of twilight for sighting new moon of Shawwal, whereas this time it is more than 42 hours in the most parts of the country.
While the minimum duration for the new moon after sunset should be more than 41 minutes whereas at this occasion; it is more than 43 minutes over the most parts of the country. About the position of the new moon, the official informed that its angle at the time of sunset is also favourable for sighting of the new moon. The conditions for sighting the new moon of Shawwal on September 20 are completely consonant with the prescribed criteria, he said. Therefore, 1st Shawwal (Eidul Fitr) would be celebrated on September 21 subject to confirmation by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, he added.
