Punjab government has earmarked Rs 12 billion for setting up ultra modern emergency wards in 10 district headquarters (DHQs) hospitals of the province. Official sources told APP here Sunday, that under the programme medical facilities including CT Scan, MRI services and diagnostic facilities would be made available in the emergency wards.
The work on the project would soon be carried out. The step was being taken for mitigating the travelling problems of the patients and to ensure quality treatment facilities at their doorstep. The government has also decided to establish four medical colleges in the province including Sialkot and initial work on this medical college had already been undertaken.
Sources further said that the government was also spending Rs 6.5 billion during current fiscal year on the provision of free health cover to the masses at tehsil level across the province. Under the programme, improved and modern health facilities would be ensured at tehsil level to facilitate the masses in their respective areas.
Apart from, the government was also focusing on medical education with a view to improve doctor to patient ratio while nursing education was top on the agenda of the government, sources added.
