Pakistani establishment, Saudi King Abdullah and other international stakeholders who were guarantors of the 'deal' that specified no action against Musharraf after his resignation, are said to be engaged in calming the turbulent waters of the Pakistani politics. Sources said inviting Musharraf to Saudi Arabia via special plane was a means to help/defuse tensions in Pakistani politics.
Moreover, sources claimed that the Saudi King was perturbed as he had received information that former President Musharraf was considering making important disclosures to media regarding Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari in London, in which there was talk of Saudi Arabia too. Sources said the Saudi king sent a message to the Pakistani leadership that his government wants stability in Pakistan.
The Saudi king has reportedly again urged all the stakeholders to stand by the 'agreement' on the issue of Musharraf future. Sources said Interior Minister Rehman Malik played an important role in dealing with the guarantors as well as Pakistani stakeholders that ultimately led to the resignation of Musharraf.
Sources said that Saudi King told Rehman Malik that PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif is coming to Saudi Arabia next week and the issue of Musharraf being tried for treason will be discussed with him and he would be urged to abide by the 'agreement'. Sources added that the former president also met Saudi Intelligence Chief Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz, who played the key role in the return of Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.
When contacted, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) spokesman Siddiqul Farooq said PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif was not going to Saudi Arabia on any special invitation. Sharif had personally applied for visa for Saudi Arabia. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif would perform Umrah and spend the last days of Ramazan in Masjid Nabawi. "It is the constitutional obligation of the federal government to try Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution," he added.
